PERSONAL IMPACT OF ARTS AND CULTURE
In what significant way has an experience with arts and culture influenced your life or thinking?
As a kid I remember going to the American Visionary Art Museum. I was struck by the rawness of the various artworks. I recall appreciating the various components and materials that went in to creating pieces of art. I observed that several installations were made up of parts of what seemed like trash, but when combined with other pieces created a unified object. This experience helped shape how I perceive my community and myself. At first glance perhaps we can only see a part of a composition, but as we step back we experience the composition not as separate parts but as a whole. On their own the various parts have meaning, but when combined this meaning can change.
